A mother is forced to rediscover herself when her family’s life is shattered by a random act of violence during the harsh grip of Brazil’s military dictatorship in 1971. Selected by the Brazilian Film Academy to compete for Best International Feature Film at the 2025 Oscars. Eunice Paiva: Marta, you have to help me. My husband is in danger! Marta: Everyone is in danger, Eunice.. Featured on Mais Você: Episode December 3, 2024. (2024) A Festa do Santo Reis, written by Léo Maia (as Marcio Leonardo), performed by Tim Maia. "I’m still here" is a film about a time in Brazilian history that was marked by fear, censorship, and torture, and that will never return. However, director Walter Sales develops the theme in a subtle way, introducing us to a united loving family waiting for the return of their missing father and husband. In such moments, it is possible to relate to Eunice’s pain and imagine how cruel the military dictatorship must have been. The film has poignant moments and builds a place where you feel close to this family, a place full of love and tenderness. Fernanda Torres’ performance is amazing, she truly deserves all the nominations she is receiving this awards season. Celentano Melo also develops a remarkable game as Rubens Paiva. The entire cast is fantastic and we also have the sublime Fernanda Montenegro as the older Eunice Paiva. The film is technically beautiful, with a stunning rendering of 1970s Rio de Janeiro. I speak for many Brazilians when I say that it would be very meaningful if Brazil were nominated for an Oscar with this, but it is a must-see nonetheless, a recent masterpiece of Brazilian cinema that can create awareness, joy, and make you cry.
