I knew about the real maple heist, saw the trailer, and thought it would be fun to watch
Plot
When maple syrup farmer Ruth Landry sees her livelihood under attack by greedy competitors who were once her friends, she hatches a plan to get revenge and shake up the industry. Loosely based on the 2011-2012 theft of $18 million worth of maple syrup from a storage facility in Quebec; five people were sentenced to prison. I want to start by mentioning that I went into this series with medium to light expectations, so there was no major disappointment and no real surprises.
It’s someone else’s work regurgitated over and over again
And it might be fun to watch, if you like low-quality Fargo knockoffs made by people who don’t understand any of the functional ingredients of the Coen Brothers’ films. And I guess you could say that all the little elements they took from other films could be homages and shout-outs, if they didn’t feel so uncomfortably and inappropriately confident in their uniqueness. There’s a certain smugness to the script and direction that, frankly, it doesn’t deserve.
Sarcastic, ugly, mean, weird, and bad
It’s the endgame of telephone, and the phrase is almost unrecognizable. The only real draw to the series, the one that kept me watching it until the end, was the cast. They’re giving it 100%, even if the characters were all the same archetypes those actors always seem to play these days.

It seems like certain cast members are unable to escape the typecast that has captured them. I want them to have a greater reach, even if they’re really good at what they’ve been doing continuously. “One Hundred Years of Solitude” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
